About General Vanier |

||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The primary role of School Council is to advise the School about issues that matter to our community and to provide feedback on on-going topics such as improving student learning (e.g. new report cards, EQAO), supporting the learning environment in the school (e.g. Reading clubs, parent volunteers, Breakfast Club), new initiatives (e.g. Assessment & Evaluation, Equity) and discussing student health & safety (e.g. Code of Conduct, Nutrition policy). Besides offering feedback to the school on specific topics and issues, your Council are directly involved in supporting the educational efforts of the school and Board through their assistance with events and programs (e.g. Bike Rodeo, Homework Club) and with financial support through fund-raising.
Each fall, our school community selects the small group of committed individuals who volunteer to serve as our School Council. Council meets formally a minimum of five times from September to May, but is actively involved with the school throughout the year. A commitment, no matter how small, to ‘make it better for all children’ at Vanier is all that we ask. You will not be disappointed!

The DSBN Perspective : At General Vanier Public School, and all of our schools, we believe that parents are important and make a real difference to children's learning. When parents are involved children do better and achieve more. School Council allows everyone involved in school life - parents, learners, teachers, school staff and the wider community to work together to support the school. It also allows all parents to have a say in their children's education by affording the opportunity to express their views and ideas.
To inquire about becoming a member of our school council, please call General Vanier Public School at (905) 871-5962, or send us an email.

Vanier Parents Group
Related to, but separate from School Council, is our Vanier Parents Group. The Parents Group is the body that that manages and disperses the proceeds from our Bingos, as they are awarded by the Town of Fort Erie. Typically those dollars are used to pay for sporting equipment, drama and other school presentations, and our year-end trips. Whether you’d like to work a bongo or two, or wish to become more involved in other aspects of what they do, the Parents Group is another opportunity for you to become actively involved in supporting the education of all of our children.
